HAPPY RAMADAN UL MOBARAK!
Ramadan/Ramazan, ninth month in the Muslim year, is the month of fasting. It is one of most important months in the Islamic calendar because it was during Ramadan that Holy Quran was first revealed to the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
This month also witnessed the first battle between the idol worshippers of Makkah and the Muslims of Madina. The result of the battle was a devastating defeat for the invading army of Makkah. The result of the battle was glorious victory for the Muslims of Madina.
This battle is known as Battle of Badr/ Bador.
The Islamic calendar is called lunar calendar which means that each new month begins with the appearance of the new moon.

Therefore, Ramadan varies annually. In Islamic countries, everyone looks out for the moon. Once the moon of Ramadan is sighted and pictured in the sky, Muslims prepare themselves for the special prayer and early-morning meal which is called Sahar. Sahar is the time starting from 2:00am and continues to before call for Morning Prayer. Fasting (Roza – Sawm) is the duty of every adult Muslim, but there are some exceptions as described below.
Elderly, sick, pregnant woman, nursing mothers and travelers are not asked to fast. But they must be in fasting at a convenient time after Ramadan and later on.

The fasting period begins at dawn time and after call for Morning Prayer is started. It ends at sunset and when Maghreb prayer is called throughout the month of Ramadan. During this time, eating, drinking, smoking and sexual relations are strictly forbidden. According to Shariah, people breaking the terms and laws shall be given punishments as per the Shariah Law.
During Ramazan, the meal in the Sahar time is recommended to be taken before dawn because it provides nourishment and energy to the body for the rest of the day. It also keeps the body and the person fresh during the day. It is also Prophet’s (PBUH) Hadith which describes that eat at least something small in Sahar mealtime so that the obligation for fasting is done.
After mealtime and Sahar, every Muslim prepares himself/herself for Reciting Holy Quran, Morning Prayer, and worshipping either in the mosque or at home. For man and woman it is also recommended to pray in Jama’ah in the mosque and on time. But in some places women cannot pray in the mosque, they do prayers at home and implement other Shariah obligations on themselves during this month.

The fasting period ends at sunset and after the call for Maghreb Prayer is heard. After hearing Maghreb Prayer call, it is a must to everyone to break fasting. Breaking Fasting is called Iftar. Families and individuals prepare meals of different kind for Iftar time. It is our Prophet’s (PBUH) Sunnah that Muslims must break their fasting with eating one Date (Khorma – Nakhol) or a glass of water and sometimes with a little salt if date is not found. After breaking fast, Muslims are praying Maghreb Prayer and other prayers afterwards.
In this holy month, Muslims do khatom which is reciting of whole Surahs of Holy Quran two or three times.
Ramadan is the only month that Muslims are very near to Allah, the almighty and compassionate. Praying during Ramazan is more acceptable than other months. Allah the almighty accepts all prayers and praying by Muslim Ummah.
Finally, I want to request all that lets pray very hard in this month to have a very nice, beautiful, peaceful, stable and victorious Afghanistan and life ahead. We should also pray in this month to have a very good and full of happiness Ramazan to whole Muslims and hope this month completes wishes of all those Muslims that they have in their hearts. We also pray that Allah the almighty also remain souls of our elders that are not amongst us in this world in peace.
